When its 30-40* ambient that takes a minute or 2.sorry neighborsīeing that I now have 4 vehicles and my work commute is a whole 4.4 miles, I rarely drive the STi below 40*, unless its a longer trip then work.Įdit: got a Foresters PDF and here's what it says about the blue light "This coolant temperature low indicator light/coolant temperature high warning light has the following two functions: Illumination in BLUE indicates insufficient warming up of the engine. Not that I have insane amount of motor work but my car runs like crap until the temp gauge comes off its resting position and I only run 93.
I do remember that the loaner would take a minute or 2 to go off just idling around 35* out. Since it was a loner I didn't care enough to look.
J J HIGHTAIL RACE CAR DRIVER MANUAL
He told me what it was and he thought there's something in the manual about letting the car idle until it goes off. A loaner I had came equipped with this which prompted me to ask my brother about it, he's more knowledgeable about Subaru's.
Other model Subaru's have a low coolant temp light. One thing I've observed is that after he idles it for several minutes and finally pulls out, once he gets on the main street he throttles it *high* and I can hear him racing down the road - typically this is early mornings or at least when there's little traffic (presumably haha) We were walking around the community over the weekend and were probably 150yds away behind buildings and could still hear his car rumbling for 10 minutes after he started up in the middle of doing mechanical work on the car. I feel worse for the people in the building he's parking right in front of though. It's a small apartment complex and the parking spot he's in is about 40-50 feet from us. We're in Southern California so it doesn't really ever get that cold ("coldest" it has been is maybe in the 40s lol?). It doesn't have to make sense, it just needs to be an internet myth so keep that in mind. If he's a typical WRX owner you should tell him something like if he lets it warm up to long the rod bearings are going to lug, or that his ring lands are going to break or something. If the houses are close it must drive you nuts. I can imagine it's annoying as hell in an STI, the exhaust is deep as hell when it's cold.
